The project involved the upgrading and re-configuring of the ground floor of a house overlooking the River Forth, included the removal of a dilapidated lean-to extension and the introduction of a new highly insulated kitchen/dining room. The new extension was constructed with a part zinc / part pitched slate roof, dark stained timber clad walls and a glazed south elevation. The front section of new zinc roof extends to form a canopy overhang and wraps around to form a seat outside the sliding glass door. A large glazed rooflight allows additional daylight to the rear of the extension above the Kitchen.
The existing straight stone steps connecting the lower garden to street level were carefully taken down and re-built wrapping around the new extension. The existing Kitchen to the north was converted to form a new Utility Room. Within the main house, the Bathroom was moved to allow this space to become the connection linking the house to the new extension. External landscaping incorporates a new pool with rainwater taken from the extension roof used to water the garden below.
