Forsinard Lookout Tower

2015

A new observatory structure for the peat bog at Forsinard in Sutherland on behalf of the Peatlands Partnership – which includes RSPB, Scottish Natural Heritage, The Forestry Commission (Scotland) and Highland Council.

The new structure provides visitors with views on to the Dubh Lochan bogs pools and the Flows landscape beyond, to assist with introducing the concepts of conserving peatland habitats in order to mitigate climate change.  It’s location also makes it an excellent platform for stargazing.

The observatory structure provides shelter with an open viewing deck above.  It is clad in Scottish Larch hit & miss battens, the timber having been sourced and processed by The Forestry Commisison, from managed woodlands near Ullapool.
